STEWARDESS COURSE TESTIMONALS
Charmaine Mawdsley
I completed Crew Pacific’s 8 day stewardess course in April 2010. The course was an eye opening experience as I thought that it would mainly revolve around the service aspect, and having a strong hospitality background, was thinking piece of cake. Well, I was mistaken...in a good way. Service turned out to be only one component of eleven. This course has provided me with knowledge and skills that would have otherwise taken years to acquire, thus giving me a running start within the industry. Joy’s course has also allowed me to grow and be a better server within the hospitality industry, proving to me that it was money well spent being able to transfer the content over several aspects in my career. I have now obtained a job on a yacht and look forward to being able to put my training into practice. I would 100% recommend others to complete Crew Pacific’s courses to help give them a running start into the industry.

Hi Joy,
I hope you are well. I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I GOT A JOB!!! I am leaving next weekend for New York to work on the M/Y Sycara IV. The Chief Stewardess actually contacted me through the acrobatic website where I had created a profile. Her name is Paige Myles and she said that she actually did your course back in 2003 when you were still running them out of your house. I think that would have been one of the main reasons why she has hired me.
So thank you again for all your help Joy!! I'll keep you posted on my travels.

After the first day of the Crew Pacific Stewardess course all I could say was “Oh my God”!!!
Joy filled our heads with information from everything to international customs to folding diamonds on toilet roll paper! We were folding napkins, tying knots, tasting wine, meeting Captains, practicing silver service, setting tables, and much, much more!!!
As you can gather the course is very hands on and a lot of fun! Joy really knows this industry well!!!
The course is set out over eight days and involves all the basics of the Super Yacht industry. I travelled up from Sydney not knowing anything about Super Yachts. I didn’t even know you could work on them let alone begin a career. So to begin with it was all very daunting, but eight exciting days later I feel I now have that extra knowledge behind me to start in this industry.
Another five days later and Joy has already found me a job on a 52m sailing yacht and all of sudden I’m flying to Singapore! So two and half weeks later I went from thinking I might get a job in a month or so to flying out the day after my courses have finished!
I couldn’t tell you enough how worthwhile the stewardess course has been. I have learnt so much from Joy and even scored a job before I could blink an eye!

Dear Joy,
just an email to thank you so much for what you taught me during the 8 day Super Yacht Stewardess training course.
I arrived in Antibes and there were so many people from so many countries all looking for work.
I could hardly find a crew house with availability! The docks were full of dock-walkers, every morning the agencies had lines up to their doors. I applied on line to agencies and straight away was invited for interviews with them they were so impressed to see I had a stewardess course, and especially 8 days! There is a course here but it’s only 2 days. I don’t know how you could learn everything I did in just 2 days! I met people who had been here 8 weeks without 1 interview, after 7 days I had 3 interviews, a four day trial, and after 2 weeks I got employed!! I am working as Deck/Stew, I’m the only stew on board. I keep your manual beside my bed!! It helps me a lot and being the only stew I don’t have anyone to ask about what to do, so emailing you and reading your manual is my bible! Because of the economy it’s really hard to get work, for a stewardess with no course it’s pretty much impossible! I’m so glad I had this course otherwise I don’t think I would be employed now! I want to thank you again for all your help. I’m so happy on this yacht!

It all started from a Google search to a few super yacht magazines, some industry books, then to an information evening. It was not long until I was booked into the highly anticipated Crew Pacific 8 day Stewardess Course.
From my first phone call Joy Weston has been more then helpful answering my million what if, how do I, when can I, questions.
Crew Pacific gets to know you, what you want, where you want to go, how to get out there and what not to do along the way. I am armed with so much knowledge, the 'bible book' we call it.
Just how quickly I advanced and how much I learnt from having done the Stewardess Course is mind blowing. It is only now that I can confidently say I am ready for the wonderful world of Super Yachts.
This is now the start of something big and I know I will always have a support network with my agent, Joy Weston!

The Super Yacht Industry? What does this mean? "Crew Pacific"
My first introduction to the "Super yachts" was in France a year ago, like everybody the amazement and wow factor initially, how could I ever dream of working on board. There must be a way.....
So an internet search on return to Australia led me to the introduction of Crew Pacific located in Cairns, Australia's only crew house. It was here that I found Crew Pacific's Managing Director, Joy Weston.
Of course anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Joy, my first five minutes of talking to her I was introduced and motivated to thinking that it is possible to achieve employment. "Joy is passionate about her business" and willing to share her wealth of knowledge.
So enrolling in Crew Pacific's eight day super yacht stewardess training course provided in depth information about what to expect. Little did I think that I would end up in a florist shop making my own floral arrangements, or at the Cairns Airport making great coffees?
Joy provided us with eight days of solid education covering silver service, wine appreciation, laundry service, visa/interviewing procedures, resume set-up and much more.
I have to say "Crew Pacific" has done a lot for me so far. Over the last few months Joy has guided and helped me prepare for the industry. I am now confident and educated ready to seek employment.
Joy Weston & Crew Pacific, a powerful dynamic service that I would recommend to anyone. All the best Joy!!
Yours Sincerely
Bolinda Green ( Student Crew Pacific)

This is a letter to state that Joy Weston of Crew Pacific taught me in the 8 day Super yacht stewardess course and I have found her to be extremely professional in her teachings and the course was so valuable to me as I went on to pursue a career in the Super Yacht Industry.
Joy not only gave me the confidence to move forward but she also placed me in my first position as a temporary stewardess in the Med which then gave me the experience and contacts to move up the ranks to new positions.
Joy has remained a close contact over the past three years and has always been on hand to lend any advice. I would highly recommend her for an award to recognise her efforts within the super yacht industry and wish her every success in the future.
Kindest Regards Kym Coombes

I’m sure that many of you reading this have found yourself feeling the ache to do something amazing with your life. Whether you grew up by the sea, on it, or even far away- the familiar connection with the ocean that we feel sets us apart from the rest of the crowd. It was this passion and desire to have an ocean-going life that lead me to the doorstep of Crew Pacific in Cairns.
Set in a quaint little lane on the back streets of Cairns in tropical north Queensland, Crew Pacific holds more to it than meets the eye. A combined crew house, training facility and agents’ office - the massive Queenslander houses the daily flurry of activity and travelers passing through.
My name is Enya Dunn-Trethowan, and I came to Crew Pacific almost a year ago to the day. Having grown up on yachts I knew that a career on the ocean, working on Luxury Yachts was my destiny, but was unsure of how to get my ‘foot in the door’ of this secretive industry.
Joy Weston, the director of Crew Pacific, leads a busy life - conducting a 2 day super yacht induction course, 5 and 8 day stewardess courses for super yachts, designing a new deckhands course for ‘green crew’ and those wishing to be up-to-date with new techniques and products, managing a busy crew-house, dealing with the needs and requests of previously placed crew and yacht owners, finding time for her family, and at the same time managing to regularly place crew on Australian and International ocean-going vessels. It was a beautiful touch when Joy welcomed me into her crew house without mention of her busy schedule and talked me through the steps I should be taking to begin my career.
I decided that the best option given my experience was to do the 8-day stewardess course, with a small class for face-to-face teaching and set at a great price. I enjoyed the course immensely, and learnt more in 8 days than I would have in 8 months on board. It also gave Joy the chance to access my skills and weaknesses, a key knowledge for her when placing crew on yachts.
Immediately after the course finished, I was given the opportunity to begin day-work on a 200ft Expedition vessel passing through Cairns for a few months. Even though the job description was for work in the engine room, I snapped up the position straight away and began work a week later. Six weeks passed and I worked in the engine room and on deck from dawn until dusk, also working at my other job in a local coffee shop at night. I stuck my nose into every possible corner of that boat, learning the systems, names and mechanics - all the while gaining experience and a great reference for future jobs.
Joy and Gabrielle (her Senior Consultant) kept in touch with me where possible - sharing my daily ecstasy as I recited the happenings on the boat.
It was quite unexpected when, an hour before the vessel left to make its passage from Australia to Tahiti, the Captain came to me and asked if I would like to come. I could remember Joy saying that anything was possible in this industry, but I never expected this sequence of events to happen to me, a 17 year old girl fresh out of school with naught but a passport and a yearning for adventure.
I knew that this was my calling to the industry and raced home to pack whatever clothes I could find, grab my Passport, and hug my family good-bye.
That was 2 months ago, and I now work in Tahiti - having just finished a busy Charter. I have the privilege of being able to say that I have been swimming in Bora, Bora on my lunch breaks and fishing after work in Tuamotu. Every day onboard I find something new to crack a smile about and realize that without the fantastic advice and help of Crew Pacific I would not be where I am today.
Whilst I miss my family, the places I have seen and people I have met even in the few months I have been on board bring the age-old saying to my mind: ‘We cannot discover new oceans until we have courage to lose sight of the shore’.
That’s the beginning of my story- what will yours be?

Hi Joy,
As you know I have been very busy joining with the agencies here on the Island and at each I have been met with such lovely and positive comments on how organised I am, how my C.V. looks great and how well presented I have come in to the office! It makes it so much easier, being met with such positivity, to join these agencies and connect with the agents. I feel that it definitely leaves them with a good feeling and impression of me and I leave the office feeling great!
I just wanted to say that I'm soooooooo glad I did your course Joy and to say thank you very much for all your help and advice.
Consequently I have already been put forward for two positions this week!! I will let you know how it goes. Once again thank you
Warmest Regards,
Romola Young

I first found Crew Pacific on the internet while I was surfing looking at the yachting industry as a potential new career. I had several phone calls with Crew Pacific and a meeting when I decided to take part in the 8 day steward/ess course. I moved into the crew house while I completed my STCW95 and the following week commenced the steward/ess course. The course was fantastic, I learned and took so much from it. Joy really is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to the yachting industry. About 1 week after the course I received my first job email from Gabrielle. I put myself forward for the job, got called for an interview and secured my first job in a brand new Nordhavn 86. The job started off as a 4 week temp position which was then extended further. What else can I say? Joy and Gabrielle with Crew Pacific are amazing, they have given me so much guidance and support and given me a quick break into the industry I wanted to get into, I couldn’t thank them enough!
